Bora bora was nothing but a dream, so romantic and beautiful. A small private boat greeted us with fresh juice, and lais and their white gloved hands took our luggage. We cruised the crystal turquoise water for about 15 minutes before being greeted by the beautiful over water bungalows. I have to say that being at the St. Regis at times I felt like I was on a scene from The Stepford Wives. The staff rode around on golf carts with a smile on their face greeting everyone they passed- “la orana” We spent our days waking up with the sunrise and taking a swim off our deck in the warm salty ocean, swimming in the pool and staying hydrated with island cocktails and local beer. The restaurants were very fancy, sitting over glass floors to see the sharks, eating seaside or on the terrace watching the sunset behind the mountain- that was a tad phallick looking. The one complaint I had, which won’t be a big surprise to any of you, was the food. I did lots of research about the food in Bora Bora and that was part of the reason we stayed at the st Regis. Not a lot of fresh fish and you could see the leftovers from all the restaurants- they repurposed them for breakfast or lunch. We began researching the names of the fish and other items on their menus and realized it was just fancy local names for any fish under “3 lbs” or under “10 lbs” kind of funny. We did a fabulous snorkeling excursion with Christopher from the south of France- he knew all the sweet spots to find beautiful reefs, fish and stingrays. we were able to swim about 3 feet above 17 spotted eagle sting rays. These majestic creatures would glide through the ocean so peacefully. The paddelboards, kayaks, and hobicat were complimentary to guests,so we spent the afternoons cruising the waters. Our last day we spent resting in each other’s arms on the hammock that hung halfway between the water and sunshine. It was so wonderful to relax and bask in the freshness of being newlywed in such a beautiful environment. xo
